On it, it has President Lincoln, the 16th president. It was made to replace the original Wheat penny (1909-58) which on it had been made on the anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. The most significant change being that in 1982 the material of which the penny changed from 97.5 % copper and 5 % zinc to 5% Copper plated and 95% zinc and then again in 2009 was changed but not the metal but the back symbol changed into 4 different variants.
